I… just had the weirdest impression that Steve and Tony would’ve had this same conversation.

“Okay, you stand there, perfect, and then I’ll shoot your shield with my repulsors and you’ll aim the blast at the bad guys.  Trust me, it’ll be great.”

“Tony, this seems like a needless extra step.”

“Cap, you aren’t thinking of the awesome.  THINK OF THE AWESOME.”

“But the shield doesn’t amplify your repulsors, it just-“

“AWESOME.”

“BUT TONY, WHAT IF YOU MISS AND HIT ME IN THE FACE—”

“WORTH IT.”

YES.  THIS HAPPENED, ALRIGHT.  SOMEHOW SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN THE… BICKERING…???  AWESOME!

it really did strike me as weird because they hadn’t fought together before and  Tony’s only other moment of fighting alongside anybody was with Rhodey in IM2, but maybe for a moment he was like “WE’LL DO THE REPULSOR TRICK!! IT’LL BE GREAT” and too late remembers it was Cap and not Rhodey but luckily Cap has the shield of amazing things so he was able to make it AWESOME.  or something. i dunno.
